Weapon X: Origins

1950 – 1965

Awareness of mutants, stemming not only from Logan’s own success in World War Two, but from the explosion of one mutant at the Auchwitz internment camp, along with the success of things like the Atom Bomb and Captain America? Would give lead to the birth of a new arms race. No longer worried about the bigger and better tank, or submarine, the world would now shift it’s focus to two things: Nuclear Weapons and Super-Soldiers.

Project: Weapon X would recruit a number of mutants to their folds. Enjoying the official tag of researching mutation for Medical Advancement their heading fell under the auspice of researching the Healing Factor of a number of already known mutants. Namely Victor Creed and Jim Howlett. Weapon X would experiment first and foremost with taking Creed and Howlett’s DNA and implanting it into others such as Silver Fox, Maverick and Wraith. (Later Deadpool and Agent X too.)

However soon after they felt that they ‘mastered’ the regenerative properties, they began to ‘test the limits’ of these healing factors. Borrowing from the Japanese Scientist Lord Darkwind, who at the time was working under contract with Weapon X, they would bond Adamantium to the bones of Jim Howlett and Victor Creed. Both would respond positively, while many others would die during the process. None of those with transplanted regenerative properties could survive the bonding. So with their two test-subjects their only showing for the testing the phase was cancelled.

Further tests over the years was performed. Logan, specifically, was the easiest to work with for testing. As they uncovered early on Jim Howlett’s healing factor was so hyped up that it would even heal over traumatic memory engrams. Keeping the specimen literally pure from any form of trauma. This allowed them the almost perfect weapon. Not only would Howlett perform for them, but he wouldn’t remember it afterwards. This began a cycle for Logan, he would be sent on assignments. Sometimes solo, other times with Team X, and when he returned he would simply be reoriented, having new members more beneficial to the project installed.
